Once a group of Atheists came to Kufa which was a place inhabited by a large Muslim population. This group wanted to debate on matters of religion. The governor of Kufa sent one of the best of his men to debate with them his name was Imam Abu Hanifa.
This debate is held in Kufa, in front of a thousands, if not a hundred of thousands of people there. The people are waiting and Imam Abu Hanifa hasn’t turned up. And they are saying that Imam Abu Hanifa has backed out, he has bottled it, he is scared and that’s why he hasn’t turned up.
After a very long time, Imam Abu Hanifa turned up. One of the Atheist said: “Where you been? What kind of Muslim are you? You give a time and you don’t come on time!”
Imam Abu Hanifa said: “I apologize I’m late, but I live on the other side of the river and I have to catch a boat to come onto this side of the river. But there was no boat, so what I see is all of a sudden a tree falls down itself, it cuts itself into planks, it assembles and comes together itself and then it comes to me itself. I then jump in it and then I cross the river.”
The atheist said : “What a load of Hocus Pocus! Have you ever seen a tree fall down by itself, come together itself and go across itself?”
Imam Abu Hanifa said: “Game Over! Debate Finished!”
The Atheist said: “What do you mean debate finished? The debate hasn’t even started.”
Imam Abu Hanifa said: “If a little boat cannot come together itself, then how did the heavens and the earth, the sea and the trees, the birds and the bees come together without a creator?!”
I heard this story recently and thought that it was worth sharing. So here it is for the world to see. I hope it opens your eyes just as it has opened mine. It is by the way a true story. Imam Abu Hanifa was a revered scholar of Islam.
The reason I found it so inspiring was that when Imam Abu Hanifa told the atheist about that tree automatically assembling into a boat, I thought the same thing as the Atheist. I mean I was like: “Another superstitious story about a man who showed the other supernatural powers to convince him that he is on the true path.” But no, It was totally different. A real shocker ! š
